Casa da Arquitectura wants to award ten research grants for doctorates in the areas of Architecture, Urbanism and Territory, with special attention to the institution’s collections, estates and collections. Applications will be open until June 3rd.

The scholarships are funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and relate to the history of architecture, construction technology, sustainability and energy economy, under the FCT Research Grant Regulation and the Research Fellow Statute.

In the notice opening the competition, published on March 18th, it is also stated that the support is part of the Cooperation protocol for Financing the Multi-annual Plan for Research Scholarships for doctoral students, an agreement created between FCT and Casa da Architecture.

In this way, research integrated into the objectives and programs of Casa da Arquitectura, which welcomes the scholarship holders, is encouraged. Research activities can be carried out at Casa da Arquitectura or at an entity proposed by the candidates.

Applications must be submitted by email. The scholarships last annually and can be renewed for a maximum of four years. Applications are open to national and foreign citizens who wish to obtain a doctoral degree from a national institution.

According to Nuno Sampaio, executive director of Casa de Arquitectura, “the launch of these scholarships represents the fulfillment of Casa da Arquitectura’s commitment to promoting and fostering research into architecture and the collections in its custody, thus opening up the possibility of production of new scientific knowledge for Portuguese and foreign citizens who qualify as eligible”. He added that the main objective is to “generate a real and significant impact on transformations in society, the territory and the way architecture is perceived”.

Casa da Arquitectura has 14 collections and three architectural collections with more than 240 authors involved. In its archive, there are around 3700 projects and approximately 135 thousand analogue documents and 180 thousand digital documents. In November, the institution announced a new collection dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April
