O Mall Mueller promotes one of the biggest exhibitions of the year to give as a gift Curitiba: it deals with the work of impressionist painter Claude Monet (1840 – 1926). From April 1st, visitors will have the opportunity to delve into the universe of the French artist, also known as the “gardener of brushes”.

Monet was a landscaper and portrayed nature in a unique way, coloring his canvases outdoors. The event reaffirms Mueller’s purpose of investing in actions that consolidate the enterprise as a cultural platform. The exhibition offers a sensorial experience that brings together art, aromas and an exclusive soundtrack developed especially for the project.

“The exhibition begins on the catwalk, with a setting inspired by the famous garden of the painter’s house in the French city of Giverny, portrayed by the artist in 1902. A true celebration of art and nature and an invitation for the public to contemplate Monet’s creations on the L4 floor, in our events space”, reveals Mueller’s marketing manager, Cynthia Maia Batista.

In the last 25 years of his life, Monet devoted himself intensely to painting and created numerous works dedicated to his garden at Giverny. Japanese bridges and the delicacy of the flowers he grew are portrayed in the exhibition. The public will be able to experience the four seasons of the year in the artist’s garden.

Entirely carried out by Shopping Mueller, since its conception, the exhibition is open to the public and can be visited until May 31st, during the mall’s opening hours.

Who was Claude Monet

Monet was born into a middle-class family and, unlike the painters of the time, who worked in their studios, he enjoyed painting amidst nature. He transformed shadows into different tones, choosing not to portray only their darkness in the image. Another striking feature of his works are the quick and loose brushstrokes, resulting in unclear contours and brighter shadows. The primary colors, in turn, were juxtaposed, instead of mixing colors.

In 1874, he painted the painting “Impression, rising sun” and his unique style caused a great repercussion at the time. The work shows the port of Le Havre in the middle of a fog and, when displayed in the studio of photographer Nadar together with others by Degas, Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Cézanne, Sisley, Boudin and Berthe Morisot, it catches the attention of the art critic Louis Leroy, who uses the term “impressionisme” for the first time. Leroy was not very kind in his comment, classifying the exhibition as an attack on good artistic standards and disrespectful to the masters of the time for portraying the “impression” of a scene and not reality.

The term, which had been used pejoratively, became commonplace and Monet came to be considered the head of the Impressionist School, one of the most important in the history of painting. His painting is now in the Marmottan Monet Museum, in Paris.

Shopping Mueller is located at Avenida Cândido de Abreu, 127 – Centro Cívico, Curitiba. The exhibition takes place on Floor L4 and catwalk, from April 1st to May 31st, from Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 10pm; Sundays and holidays, from 2pm to 8pm. Free entrance
