Electric cars are more likely to have accidents! Why?

-

Anyone who walks on the roads is always prone to accidents. Some on their own, but others because of third parties. In a recent study, it was concluded that electric cars are more likely to have accidents. Find out why!

Electric cars: acceleration, sound and weight...

In the literature associated with the automotive segment there is an idea that electric vehicles are very safe vehicles... and it is true (at least some, as is the case with Tesla). However, there is now new data that reveals that electric cars are more likely to have accidents.

According to the Fidelidade study, among the various reasons is the more sudden acceleration of electric cars, which often causes greater difficulty in controlling drivers (especially new ones).

Returning to the issue of acceleration. The electric motors are quite powerful and this is noticeable during acceleration. For example, a Tesla Model 3 Long Range takes 4.1 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.

Electric and hybrid vehicles have higher accident rates of around 50% and 25%, respectively, when compared to combustion vehicles. The study also reveals that the fact that electric cars are heavier (they can be 35% heavier compared to combustion vehicles) ends up causing more damage in collision situations.

They also cause more accidents, as they are quieter. It should be noted that these conclusions are identical to the Hertz study, published in January this year.

In short, electric cars are as safe as fuel-powered ones. However, there are some variables that have contributed to an increase in accidents. These are not exactly problems with the cars themselves, quite the opposite. Yes, these are characteristics that certainly require new driving habits.
