Volvo reaches historic milestone and produces last diesel engine car

With the advancement of electric cars, brands need to adapt and change their production. Volvo has now set a clear example of change and announced that it has produced its last car with a diesel engine. This one went straight to the brand’s museum.

With European standards changing within a few years, car manufacturers have already started to prepare for the change. There are steps that need to be taken and that represent important moments that will go down in the history of brands, whether positive or negative.

Volvo took one of these steps and announced that last Tuesday the company's last diesel-powered model was produced. This was an XC90, which rolled off its production line in Torslanda, Sweden. The next stop for this car is the World of Volvo in Gothenburg, where it will be on display.

This moment marks the end of 45 years of production of cars with diesel engines, which represented a large share of its sales for the brand over the years. In this line, many iconic models appeared and had this engine as a base.

Still, by 2030, Volvo intends to be an exclusively electric brand. This is a big change, considering that manufacturers have always based their proposals on diesel engines.

Volvo highlighted that more than 9 million cars with diesel engines have been manufactured since 1991, which is the oldest period in the company's records. Therefore, this real number is much higher, given that 12 years were not accounted for.

As part of its adaptation process, and to make all investments profitable, Volvo's factories will be recycled. These start to produce the brand's electric cars and thus ensure that its presence remains strong in the market, with top models.
