Volkswagen technology hub heads to Porto with first office outside the capital
The choice was due to the fact that there is qualified talent in the North, “especially in Porto and the surrounding areas”, explains the German group company in a statement.
A Volkswagen Digital Solutions (VWDS)a unit of the Volkswagen group dedicated to innovation, opened a new technological hub in Porto. This is the fourth center in Portugal, but it is the first outside Lisbon.
VWDS is located in DeHouse, in Trindade, and is an office with capacity for 30 workstations.
“The choice of Porto for the second location in the country, and VWDS’ fourth office, was due to the fact that the technology recognizes the qualified talent in the North, especially in Porto and the surrounding areas”, explains the German group company in communicated.
The team located in Porto currently has 20 people, who already worked for the company from that region, but the objective is “the integration of new elements”, details the company.
Volkswagen Digital Solutions, created in 2018, focuses on creating technological solutions for the German group.
“When I joined VWDS we were around 180 workers. Today, we are close to 600 people. The growth was much faster than expected because our work and the relationship with Germany is allowing us to be much more in demand in terms of critical business solutions”, says Jürgen Reimann, CEO of VWDS.
According to the person responsible for the company, the plan is to continue to “increase the number of people”.
The Volkswagen group has reinforced its investment in technology centers in Portugal. In June last year, Volkswagen Financial Services, another unit, opened its “first technology hub in Europe” at Lionesa Business Hub, in Matosinhos.
