A Forbes magazine published the list of billionaires for 2024, with the top ten places being occupied by men. But who are the 10 richest women in the world?
It should be noted that the majority of the richest women inherited their fortunes. MacKenzie Scott is the only one in the top 10 who got her fortune through a divorce. This year, note, there are more women on the list: they are 369 of the 2,781 billionaires and there were 337 in 2023.

The 74-year-old woman from India, president of the Jindal Group, whose activities include steel, energy, cement and infrastructure. She is the widow of founder Om Prakash Jindal and has a fortune valued at 33.5 billion dollars (more than 30.9 billion euros).
The seventh richest woman in the world is Rafaela Aponte-Diamant, co-founder of one of the largest shipping companies in the world. She is the only one in the ‘top 10’ who built her own fortune. Rafaela Aponte-Diamantm, 79, and her husband, Gianluigi, each hold a 50% stake in MSC. From Switzerland, she is in 48th place on the list and has a fortune of 33.1 billion dollars (more than 30.5 billion euros).
In eighth appears Miriam Adelson and family. She is 78 years old, American and the widow of Sheldon Adelson, the former executive director and president of the casino company Las Vegas Sands, who died at the age of 87 in 2021. She is in 53rd place in the ranking and has a fortune of 32 billion dollars (more than 29.5 billion dollars).
The ninth richest woman in the world is also the richest woman in Australia. Gina Rinehart70 years old, built his wealth based on iron ore and has a net worth of 30.8 billion dollars (more than 28.4 billion euros), ranking 56th on the Forbes list.
This ‘top 10’ closes with Abigail Johnson. The 62-year-old American has been executive director of Fidelity Investments since 2014, when she replaced her father, and president since 2016. She is in 58th place and has a fortune of 29 billion dollars (more than 26.7 billion euros).
Remember that the Forbes magazine list only has one Portuguese name: Maria Fernanda Amorim, whose fortune is valued at 5.3 billion euros, currently in 522nd place.
Despite conflict, inflation and political conjecture, there are more billionaires than ever before. Forbes included a total of 2,781 people on its list of the richest in 2024, 141 more than last year. This number even surpassed the record set in 2021, with 26 new entries.
The majority are also from the United States, a country that boasts a record 813 billionaires. In second place on the table is China, including Hong Kong, with 473 billionaires, while India occupies third place, with 200 of the world’s richest.
For the second year in a row, French businessman Bernard Arnault took the podium, followed by Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and Larry Ellison, in the top five.
