On March 31, 2024, the State’s direct debt balance amounted to 287,205 million euros, an increase of 0.4% compared to the previous month”, reads a note from the IGCP.

The balance of the State’s direct debt increased by 0.4% at the end of March to 287,205 million euros, due to the increase in the value of treasury bills, announced the IGCP – Treasury and Public Debt Management Agency.

“As of March 31, 2024, the State’s direct debt balance amounted to 287,205 million euros, an increase of 0.4% compared to the previous month”, reads a note from the IGCP.

The increase in the balance of treasury bills (BT) by 1,037 million euros contributed to this variation, with issues (1,872 million euros) exceeding amortizations (834 million euros).

The increase in the balance of treasury bonds (OT) also contributed to this evolution by 1,001 million euros, as a result of issues carried out during the month.

On the other hand, the outstanding balance of other instruments increased by 750 million euros, “with the disbursement of a credit line in the same amount”.

The IGCP also referred to the decrease in the balance of treasury certificates (CT) by 104 million and in savings certificates by 21 million euros.

During this period, the balance of Special Short-Term Debt Certificates (CEDIC) had a reduction in value of 1,584 million euros. The margin account counterparts fell by four million euros.

“Incorporating the favorable exchange rate effect of derivatives coverage, corresponding to the notional value of swaps of capital coverage, which amounted to 62 million euros in March, the total value of debt after exchange rate coverage stood at 287,143 million, that is, an increase of 0.4%”, he explained.
