Spanish court grants provisional freedom to Daniel Alves

Ary Borges and Kerolin, athletes from the national team who had spent time at Palmeiras, were the first to take a stand.

– Leila Pereira, giant, as a woman she took a stand and I say more, she showed how people who have a voice, space and influence could take a stand. How long will only women last? How long will women continue to suffer these and other types of crimes and will the people who commit them go unharmed? – asked Kerolin, who is with North Carolina Courage, in the United States.

Leila is in London, England, with the Brazilian team and was asked if the convictions of Daniel Alves and Robinho are discussed in the delegation. The leader said that “no one says anything”, but that she, as a woman in leadership, needs to take a stand and states: “It’s a slap in the face to all of us women”.

– She showed that this is what people in impactful positions need to do. But how long will only women continue to expose themselves, alone and repudiate situations like this, or in this case, CRIME like these? – asked Ary, who is at Racing Louisville, in the USA.

Daniel Alves was sentenced by the Spanish Court to four and a half years in prison for sexual assault against a woman inside a nightclub in Barcelona, in December 2022.

On Wednesday, March 20, the Court accepted the defense’s request for provisional release, upon payment of bail of R$5.45 million and withdrawal of passports. The player has been in pre-trial detention for 14 months.

– I was avoiding talking because all I could feel was anger. But it’s unacceptable for a guy to pay to have the right to rape a woman. He didn’t pay for his freedom either because he regretted what he did or to prove his innocence. It is unacceptable! – completed Ary, on social media.

Ary Borges and Kerolin are often active voices for women’s rights in women’s football, and both played for Palmeiras at different times in their careers.

Kerolin signed with Verdão in January 2019, but a month later it was announced that she had failed a doping test carried out by Audax, in the 2018 Libertadores. She served the suspension and returned to play in 2021. Ary, in turn, she arrived at Palmeiras in 2020 and stayed for three years, winning the Copa Paulista, Paulistão and Libertadores.
