Jake Gyllenhaal still wants to be Batman, a role that eluded him at the beginning of his career.

At a time when some fans say they have made it known that they would like to see him in “The Brave and the Bold”, the “Batman” project in preparation at DC Studios in the universe managed by James Gunn and Peter Safran (separate from the films with Robert Pattinson), the answer was categorical when Screen Rant asked if he was still interested in being the superhero: “Of course. It would always be an honor.”

Gyllenhaal justified it with admiration for these roles being “classic”, played by ‘other incredible actors’, comparing it to the theater experience.

In an interview with Howard Stern revealed this Thursday, the 43-year-old actor recalled what it was like to be one of the finalists in the casting for “Batman: The Beginning” (2005), to the point of testing the suit for the camera. , before Christian Bale was announced as director Christopher Nolan’s chosen one in September 2003.

He also said that he was part of the casting around 1999 for the main male role in “Moulin Rouge” (2001), by Baz Luhrmann: ‘It was me, Heath [Ledger] and the [escolhido] Ewan McGregor. He has reached this point. That’s when I first heard about Heath,” he recalled of his future partner in “Brokeback Mountain” (2005).

Reflecting on the rejections, he admitted his disappointment, but emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive attitude.

“In the end, you learn to think ‘There is another. I can try and participate and test for someone else. I will achieve something else. That’s how it is. You adopt that attitude,” he explained.

Gyllenhaal confirmed this and was grateful that the two directors contacted him directly to share the news that he had not been chosen.

“When you get this far, there is a real legitimacy to potentially achieving something. It’s not like they’re saying, ‘Oh, thank you very much.’ They’re saying, ‘I saw these sides of you that I really wanted on paper and I think they’re wonderful. But, in the end, I ended up going in this direction because it suits this person better”, he recalled.

The actor also admitted that there are other ‘non-factors’ that get involved in the ‘casting’ process that he prefers not to waste too much time on.

“If you start thinking about it, it just doesn’t work. It’s not healthy. So I just… we tried and we moved on. At the time, I remember thinking… I just got a call from Christopher Nolan himself It’s very ‘cool’. I’ve come quite far”, he concluded.
