The idea was originally reported in 2018, when Halford said in an interview that he had met Nergal, and stated: “‘You know, I love your kind of music. I’d love to try something and see what happens.'” Halford praised the Behemoth frontman and also Ihsahn (Emperor), stating “Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk” to be his favorite Emperor album and considering the duo “masters of their world”.

“That’s something Rob started suggesting around 2000 or 2001. It was a shock. I think it was 2001 when he called my house. (Laughs) I think he’s been an Emperor fan since the beginning,” Ihsahn said. . “He’s a gentleman, a person with a passion for music, and you see that in his interest in music and dedication. He doesn’t have a rock star attitude or anything like that. He’s just a wonderful person,” he added.

The duo has a long list of participations in other projects and Ihsahn featured Nergal on the single “By The River”, from his project Me And That Man. As years passed, was the idea shelved? According to Ihsahn, in a recent conversation with Metal Injection, there is still hope for the trio to record a song. “I’m still hopeful that me, Rob Halford and Nergal can do something together at some point,” he said.
