A former player’s apartment Bebeto60 years old, four-time champion for the Brazilian National Team, and his wife, Denise de Andrade Gama de Oliveira, will go to auction on April 1st because of debts owed to the Santa Mônica Special Building condominium, in Barra da Tijuca, in the West Zone From Rio.
The action has been in progress since 2020, by the 4th Civil Court of Barra da Tijuca, and charges the amount of R$ 504,262.02 relating to condominium, IPTU and fire tax – all plus interest and late payment fine. Still according to the document, the condominium fee for the property has not been paid since May 2019.
The initial bid for unit 601 of block III of the condominium is R$ 1.6 million, and will be conducted by public auctioneer Jonas Rymer. If the apartment is not sold on the day, the unit will be offered again, on April 4th, starting at 50% of the property’s appraised value.
The amount collected will also be used to pay the condominium debts of the unit 602also belonging to the couple, and also the target of legal action.
When contacted, lawyer Rafael Giro, from the firm Müller, Novaes, Giro & Machado Advogados, who represents Santa Mônica Special, said that the condominium representatives are satisfied with the outcome of the action after four years.
“I can say that they are satisfied, since, after so long, the value of the shares will finally be recovered. It’s a cliché, but justice takes time, but it doesn’t fail,” she said.
This is not the first time that Bebeto and his wife have had problems with condominium payments. They have also been notified of debts at the Marina Barrabela building, also in Barra da Tijuca – which have been paid -, at the Santa Mônica Condominium Club, with which an agreement was made to settle a debt of more than R$78 thousand, and It was also the target of two active debt lawsuits filed by the City of Mangaratiba, in the Costa Verde region of Rio de Janeiro.
Bebeto’s wife, Denise, went so far as to say that the debts existed due to bad faith on the part of an administrator who was supposed to make payments for the properties, but who let the debts accumulate.
“As we travel a lot, we had a person who resolved all this for us. But later we discovered that she didn’t make the payments resulting in all this. What we could, we made an agreement, we paid in installments and paid the debts. It was never bad faith. We would never risk losing an asset that Bebeto took his whole life to build”, he said in 2020 to g1.
