‘Barbie’ was a box office success last year, however, not everyone liked the film directed by Greta Gerwig.
This group includes Shakira’s children, as she revealed in an interview she gave to Allure magazine.
From the artist’s perspective, ‘Barbie’ is a work of pop culture that robbed “men of the possibility of being men”.
“My kids hated it,” said Shakira.
“They said it was emasculating. And I agree to a certain extent. I’m raising two boys. I want them to feel powerful too, respecting women. I like pop culture when it aims to empower women without robbing men of the possibility of being men , to also protect and be providers. I believe that women can be given all the tools and confidence that they can do everything without losing their essence and femininity”he argues.
“I think men have a purpose in society, just like women. We complete each other and that shouldn’t be lost,” I continue.
“Just because women can do all this means that men shouldn’t?”, he further asks. “Why not share the burden with people who deserve to carry it and who have a duty to do so too?”, she adds.
Remember that Shakira is the mother of Milan, aged nine, and Sasha, aged seven, who were born from a previous relationship with Gerard Piqué.
