With climate change on the agenda, reducing the carbon footprint continues to be an objective to be achieved with a view to a better planet, in defense of sustainability.

With a view to achieving this end, PRIO began transporting liquid fuels by rail this April, between the Port of Aveiro and Sines.

According to the Port of Aveiro Administration, the Liquid Bulk Terminal received the first of two trains of the new regular biofuel distribution service, on April 18th, inaugurated by PRIO. Through this transport, it is possible to remove dozens of trucks from the roads every month. Eduardo Feiro, president of the Port Council and Administration, said in this regard that «this first train allows 26 trucks to be removed from the road between the Port of Aveiro and Sines».

As he explains, the new service will run regularly, every month, and comes in line with the joint efforts of PRIO and the Port of Aveiro to reduce the carbon footprint.

This is another step integrated into the defined strategy that the Port has sought to innovate and decarbonize at all stages of the supply chain, from the production phase to the delivery of the final product to customers.
