The loss of a child, at any age, leaves a void that can never be filled. On the day that marked the 12th anniversary of the death of Miguel Portas (24-04-2012), who, at 53 years old, could not resist cancer, Helena Sacadura Cabral took to social media to remember and honor his eldest son:

“Today, another year passes since my son Miguel passed away. My first thoughts were of him, smiling, in the photo on my bedside table. I sat there on the edge of the bed, smiling at him, knowing that wherever I was, I would be doing the same. I gave him a kiss and calmly started my work day. At night I say goodbye again, waiting for his birthday, on May 1st. This year, for the first time, I will spend that day in the sea at Praia das Maçãs, where his ashes rest. And I’ll be able to leave a bouquet of flowers there. He was and is a blessed son!”, It begins with a heartfelt and affectionate message.

Then, the writer, who celebrates her 90th birthday in December, also announced that she will be absent from social media for an indefinite period of time and that, for now, she is focused on her new book, which will be released next autumn:

“Today is also the time to say goodbye to my readers on social media. It took almost two years to share with you a way of life that is mine, and that I thought could lead others, less happy, to review theirs. If I managed to give encouragement and strength, I’m happy. If I didn’t achieve my goal, it was very positive for me to read your comments, which also helped me to revisit the different lives I’ve lived! I’m going to be out there preparing the new book, which will come out in October, but every now and then I’ll come here to share news.
Finally, a very special thank you to all those who, before I wrote these lines, remembered Miguel.”
he stated.

And there were many public figures like Maria Botelho Moniz, Catarina Furtado It is Alexandra Lencastreamong many others, who wanted to leave a message of support and affection.
