In view of the recent decision by judge Valéria Dacheux, from the 6th Chamber of Private Law, in Rio de Janeiro, the representative of Regina Lemos Gonçalves’ family, João Sandes, gave an interview to Coluna Claudia Meireles.
According to the spokesperson, a close friend of the family, the 88-year-old socialite is so afraid of having to return to live with her partner, José Marcos Chaves Ribeiro, that she even said that she “prefers death” to returning to him.
Businessman, Sandes shared that the socialite “is afraid of the horrors” committed by José Marcos, accused by family and friends of keeping Regina in private prison, for months, in an apartment in the Chopin Building, in Rio de Janeiro. He also allegedly committed physical and psychological abuse against the elderly woman.
According to Sandes, “the family received in disbelief the decision of judge Valéria Dacheux that reestablishes guardianship of Regina’s former companion”.
Decision
This Thursday (25/4), the judge of the 6th Chamber of Private Law maintained the provisional guardianship of the 88-year-old woman with her partner. The decision revokes the protective measure requiring José Marcos to stay 250 meters away from Regina.
In the first instance, however, substitute judge Claudia Leonor Jourdan Gomes Bobsin, from the 1st Court of Children, Youth and the Elderly, would have ordered the return of the socialite to the Chopin Building, in Copacabana, with the curator, in this case her nephew. As the decision of the second instance prevails, the socialite must return to the apartment where she lives with her partner.
According to the spokesperson, “the family understands that the Judiciary is handing her over [Regina] on a platter to the aggressor.” João Sandes reiterates that friends and family are showing solidarity with Regina and “ask the courts for help”.
A point highlighted by the businessman and family representative is that the protective measure decision was granted by judge Antonio Carlos Nascimento Amado, from the 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJ-RJ), and not by judge Claudia Leonor Jourdan Gomes Bobsin, from the 1st Court for Children, Youth and the Elderly.
“In fact, there is a conflict, because the decision regarding the protective measure and, therefore, José Marcos’ distance from the victim was not reestablished by a first instance judge, but rather by a judge. Judge Antonio Amado, from the 3rd Criminal Chamber”, points out Sandes.

In the Claudia Meireles Column, João Sandes declared that the relatives were aware of footage that showed how the socialite lived under the tutelage of José Marcos. “We discovered the undeniable violence and abuse committed against Regina and her sister, Terezinha Lemos Yamada. The family became aware of this video and expressed that they are devastated”, endorses the businessman.
According to family members of the socialite, the recording shows that Regina had been drunk by José Marcos. In the recording, he tries to kiss Terezinha by force, who is trying to escape the advances of her sister’s partner. One of the elderly women says during filming: “My goodness”. In the video, José Marcos appears holding a glass.
