After two decades in the film industry, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is now better known as an actor than as a WWE wrestler. The star has even built a good reputation in the world — at least among the public —, starring in several blockbusters and successful franchises.

Johnson, however, doesn’t live up to his fame behind the scenes. According to information released by the website The Wrap this Tuesday (30), the actor disrupted the troubled set of ‘Red One’ and caused losses to the film studio’s coffers.

The Christmas feature film directed by Jake Kasdan was scheduled to premiere at the end of 2023. After a series of setbacks, the project had to be postponed until November this year.

Initially, the justification for the new release date would be related to the strikes held in Hollywood last year, but the North American outlet claims that the real reasons are different.

The film’s problems include recurring delays and Johnson’s lack of professionalism, and even include the inexperience of the producers. The budget of ‘Red One’, which also features Lucy Liu, Chris Evans and JK Simmons in the cast, exceeded US$250 million (almost R$1.3 billion at current prices) — something common for superhero films, but unfeasible for most Christmas comedies.

The more than 12 informants contacted by The Wrap reported that Dwayne was up to eight hours late on set, which meant the team had to constantly change the schedule.

Furthermore, if he was away from his trailer, the star did not use the public bathroom. He preferred urinating into water bottles to save time, which also upset other employees.

“He peed in water bottles and someone on the team had to throw them away,” said an insider.

‘Red One’ tells the story of a bounty hunter who is hired to find Santa Claus and save Christmas after the good old man’s kidnapping. Amazon MGM’s original plan was to turn the film into a franchise — which perhaps explains the number of professionals cast with other jobs in common. Director Kasdan, for example, helms ‘Jumanji’ — a series of films starring The Rock — and screenwriter Chris Morgan has worked on several ‘Fast and Furious’ films.

A studio representative denied the veracity of the sources’ reports in a statement to The Wrap, highlighting the professionalism of everyone involved. “Any information pointing to delays of seven to eight hours is ridiculous and false,” the statement said.
