“Looking back, I don’t know if I was ever in love with that man.” The phrase appears in Shaunie Henderson’s memoir. The 49-year-old producer, who was married to Shaquille O’Neal between 2002 and 2011, released her memoir, entitled “UNDEFEATED: Changing the Rules and Winning on My Own Terms”, in which she talks about the tumultuous relationship. The basketball legend had also already addressed the topic, admitting that infidelity had been one of the reasons for the breakup, as she reported in her memoir, “Shaq Uncut: My Story”, released in 2011.
Shaunie, who remarried in 2022, with the pastor of the Baptist church The Lighthouse Church and Ministries Keion Henderson, also says that “I was in love with the idea of being married to the man with whom I had started a family” and “with the idea of building a life together”.
Shaquille O’Neal seems not only to have understood the message but to have agreed, as he used the social network Instagram to write a message of understanding for sharing his ex-wife, with whom he maintains a good relationship. “I understand…I wouldn’t be in love with myself either. I wish you the best”, shared the former athlete, adding: “believe me, I understand”.
Shaquille and Shaunie were officially married between 2002 and 2011. In between there were two divorce attempts, one in 2007, followed by a reconciliation, and another in 2011. The former basketball player and the producer of the reality show “Basketball Wives” have four children in common: Shareef, 24, Amirah, 22, Shaqir, 21, and Me’arah, 18. The pair share Myles, 27. years, from a previous relationship with Shaunie. Shaquille is also the father of Taahirah, 27, also the result of another relationship.
