Athletics: Secretary of Sport monitors the departure of more than 40 athletes from Arapiraca to PE

More than 40 athletes from Arapiraquense left early this Saturday (2), at 4am, for Petrolina (PE). They will participate, this Sunday (3), in the 7th Petrolina Irrigated Fruit Farming Half Marathon. The Sports Secretary, Josenildo Souza, followed the athletes’ concentration and departure, at Bosque das Arapiracas.

With support from Arapiraca City Hall, through the Municipal Sports Secretariat (SMESP), the athletes guaranteed transport for the journey of more than 7 hours and 553 km in distance.

“It was an exciting moment to participate and see our athletes excited and encouraged to represent Arapiraca in this traditional Petrolina event and Mayor Luciano Barbosa immediately determined this support so that we can have our representation in Pernambuco”, said Josenildo Souza.

Multimarathon runner Carminha Cruz, 66 years old, is among the athletes and stated that this support is extremely important for them all to travel together and in safe, quality transport.

“We are very happy because this contribution is extremely important, otherwise we would not have been able to afford the round trip tickets and our mayor and our secretary got this bus so we could represent Arapiraca in this athletics event in Pernambuco”, highlighted Carminha Cruz .

The 7th Irrigated Fruit Farming Half Marathon will be held this Sunday, March 3, with routes of 7Km and 21Km.

Arapiraca City Hall and the Sports Department have also guaranteed transportation for Arapiraquense athletes to participate in the 39th Aracaju City Race 2024, which will take place on March 23 in the capital of Sergipe with routes of 5Km, 10Km and 24Km.
