Rio – The State Department of Health (SES-RJ) announced that the number of covid-19 cases in Rio fell for the second consecutive week. The new edition of ‘Panorama da Covid-19’, launched this Monday (18), makes a comparison between the records of the epidemiological weeks from February 25th to March 2nd and from March 3rd to 9th.

The indicator of rapid Covid-19 tests in the public network increased from 25.7% to 14.4%; while RT-PCR increased from 38.3% to 29.9%. The positivity rate detected in the private network also fell, going from 19.5% to 10% in rapid tests. In the RT-PCR exams, it went from 30.2% to 17.8% in the period considered.

The SES also pointed out that there was a 14 percentage point drop in the number of patients with flu symptoms, from 2,726 records to 2,389.

However, in pediatric care, this number did not fall. According to a study carried out by the Health Intelligence Center, based on reports from the Noel Nutels Central Laboratory, this is due to the increased circulation of the Influenza A virus.

The SES-RJ survey also points to growth in requests for beds for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome in the age groups of 1 to 9 years, and shows that the elderly continue to be the group that is most hospitalized.

“Since the last edition of Panorama we have noticed a change in viral circulation. Our monitoring indicates that, at this moment, the demand for care for flu syndrome is being caused, mainly, by Influenza”, explains Claudia Mello, Secretary of State for Health of the River.

SES-RJ reinforced the importance of the Flu Vaccination Campaign and recommended that groups most vulnerable to respiratory infections, such as children and the elderly, keep booster doses against Covid-19 up to date to avoid serious cases and deaths. Both vaccines can be administered on the same day.

The Covid Panorama and other information, such as the number of hospitalizations, deaths and vaccination coverage rate, can be consulted by the disease Monitoring Panel.
