Official letter talks about the benefits of teleworking and the history of implementing the working day model

Copel’s decision to unilaterally reduce teleworking from May 6th continues to be reflected. In a letter sent to the president of the Company Daniel Pimentel, the CSEC and CSMEC Trade Union Collectives protest against the decision announced on March 28th and without a negotiation table with the entities or possibility of questioning. For the unions, “in favor of maintaining healthy business relations, this is a lapse and not a new institutional policy”.

Together, the entities emphasize that teleworking was introduced at a time of great apprehension and fear due to the Covid-19 pandemic and that the possibility of working “from home” brought security and quality of life.

“The Union Entities, during the year 2021, still under the severe effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, repeatedly requested the Company to open negotiations on the continuity and/or permanent adoption of a remote work regime or different from the in-person work regime ”, says the letter.

The document also highlights that teleworking had to be judicialized so that Copelians were not harmed. “The Union Entities sought to reopen negotiations on the mandatory return in person, even if partial, without success. Due to the Company’s intransigence, at the end of 2021, a labor action was filed and a complaint was filed with the Public Ministry of Labor, to preserve the health of employees and contest the teleworking model imposed by Copel”.

Once Covid-19 was overcome, it continued to be “a battle” to maintain a model that brings benefits to workers and also to the business, given the company’s growth and record net profits year after year.

In view of the facts and events, the union collectives reinforce that regardless of the company’s legal regime, dialogue and the negotiation table must be preserved. “Negotiations have always been guided by dialogue, respect and ethics. It is difficult for us to believe that, after the dispersion of Copel’s capital and consequent transformation into a company with dispersed (private) capital, the way of conducting business starts to disregard important stake holders”, it is highlighted.
