The Health Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved a bill that establishes a policy of comprehensive care for victims of Covid-19 and their families. The objective is to guarantee the recovery of patients with sequelae and alleviate social impacts.

On the recommendation of the rapporteur, deputy Ana Paula Lima (PT-SC), Bill 1820/21, by licensed deputy Alexandre Padilha (SP), was approved, with the adjustments made last year based on two amendments from the Education Commission .

“Data from the Ministry of Health indicate more than 38 million cases of Covid-19 in Brazil and more than 700 thousand deaths from the disease”, says the rapporteur. “This reinforces the need for integrated measures to face the consequences of the pandemic.”

Orphans of the pandemic
According to the approved version, the Union, states, the Federal District and municipalities must develop specific policies focusing on comprehensive care for Covid victims, with a focus on health, education and social and economic protection.

The proposal provides special protection for children and adolescents orphaned by the pandemic. The federative entities must guarantee psychosocial and health monitoring, measures to strengthen bonds and foster care in families, if there is no adoption record.

Next step
The project is underway in conclusive character and will still be analyzed by the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Commission.
