Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola used social media, this Saturday (4), to release the very first trailer for his newest film, “Megalopolis”.
The day chosen by Coppola to release the material was special. On the same date, Eleanor Coppola, also a film director and wife of the filmmaker who passed away in April, would have celebrated her birthday.
So, he dedicated the preview to his partner. “Megalopolis has always been a film dedicated to my dear wife Eleanor,” he wrote.
“I was really hoping to celebrate her birthday together this May 4th. But unfortunately that didn’t happen, so allow me to share with everyone a gift in her name”, added Francis.
Starring Adam Diver, the video shows the main character standing on the edge of a building and pausing time. Watch:
In the plot, Driver will play an idealistic architect who tries to rebuild New York as an American utopia.
Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Dustin Hoffman, Jon Voigt, Giancarlo Esposito, Laurence Fishburne and Kathryn Hunter are also in the cast.
Coppola not only directs, but also writes the script. Furthermore, he himself finances the film project, whose budget is just under US$100 million.
“Megalopolis” does not yet have a release date in theaters, but it will be shown at the 2024 Cannes Festival, which takes place between May 14th and 25th.
