Oral health is a factor that directly affects a child’s academic performance, especially if there is no guidance. To reduce the impact of problems like this, Arapiraca City Hall, through the Departments of Health and Education, and the Ministry of Health promoted, this Wednesday (8), the Mais Saúde Oral project in two schools in the municipality.

Initially, children from the Fernando Collor de Melo School, in Canaã, and the Berenice Miranda Neto Early Childhood Education Center, located in the Planalto neighborhood, were included. As the first stage of the project, students received oral hygiene kits and received guidance on brushing, but based on the child’s needs, referrals will be made to complete the treatment at the reference unit.

The action is part of the School Health Program (PSE) and is an intersectoral partnership between the Oral Health Coordination, represented by coordinators Fernanda Mafra, Danyella Leandro and Hellyclécia Albuquerque, the teams from the UBS of Canaã and Planalto, the Department of Education and the Ministry of Health, great creator of the event. The project takes place throughout the country and aims to address vulnerabilities that could compromise the integral development of public school and basic education students, in addition to supporting the training process of Health and Education professionals.

According to Fernanda, this articulation between school and Primary Care is one of the central points of the PSE. “Paying this attention to the school environment, with regard to oral health, is essential for developing healthy habits early in childhood, as this early learning will help minimize risks in the short and long term”, she explains.

In Arapiraca, the program takes place in 35 schools and early childhood education centers, with a total of 10,384 students benefiting. The “Mais Saúde Bucal” project, which took place this Wednesday morning, is a special D-Day action to celebrate 20 years of Brasil Sorridente, the National Oral Health Policy.
