AstraZeneca confirms that it will withdraw its vaccine against Covid-19 worldwide

-

A AstraZeneca confirmed, on Tuesday, that it began the global withdrawal of its vaccine against Covid-19 due to the decrease in demand, according to Reuters.

The company, which points to a “surplus of updated vaccines available” since the pandemic, also confirmed that it would withdraw marketing authorizations for the vaccine, called Vaxzevria, in Europe.

“As multiple Covid-19 variant vaccines have been developed, there is a surplus of updated vaccines available” said the company, adding that this has led to a decrease in demand for the vaccine, which is no longer manufactured or supplied.

It should be noted that the pharmaceutical company previously admitted, in court documents, that the vaccine causes side effects such as blood clots and low blood platelet counts.

The company’s request to withdraw the vaccine was made on March 5 and came into effect on May 7, according to the Telegraph.

A spokesperson, cited by Reuters, reported that the Serum Institute of India (SII), which produced the vaccine, has stopped manufacturing and supplying doses since December 2021.
