Rivals finally arrived in Brazilian cinemas, bringing the competitive love triangle between tennis players Tashi (Zendaya), Art (Mike Faist) and Patrick (Josh O’Connor). The feature film directed by Luca Guadagnino has been classified as “intense” and “sexy”, and even before watching it, it is possible to assume that such complex characters were quite a challenge for the young trio of protagonists.

In particular, Josh O’Connor, who previously played Prince Charles in The Crown, in an interview with IndieWirecalled tennis player Art a “monster” and “idiot”, highlighting the challenge of playing the character: “How do you make a character likable and, at the same time, be a monster? […] It’s the first time I think I’ve played a character who’s like, ‘I’m so mad…’. Like, ‘I’m an idiot and I’m proud'” sums up the actor.
Whether Patrick is a “monster” or not, Josh O’Connor leaves it up to the audience to decide: “My job as an actor is to look at the script, analyze the texts, see what’s there, show up to work and do my job.
