A “lost” song that brought thousands of people together on a treasure hunt was, after all, from a pornographic film

A “lost” song that led thousands of Reddit users to try to discover its origin has finally been identified.

The mystery dates back to 2021, when an excerpt of the song was published on YouTube. In this video, you can hear the verse ‘Everyone Knows That’ – the title by which the song became known – over a pop instrumental from the 80s.

The video quickly reached Reddit, where many tried to discover its origin, without success. At one point, the forum of fans eager to locate ‘Everyone Knows That’ reached 47 thousand people.

Since 2021, there have been several theories about the origin of ‘Everyone Knows That’: there were those who proposed that it was an old Roxette or Savage Garden model, or those who thought that it was simply a throwaway song for an advertisement. What is certain is that, for many, the song had a strange familiar, “I’ve heard this before” appeal.

Searching databases for ‘Everyone Knows That’ or ‘Ulterior Motives’, another verse from the excerpt, Reddit users were able to limit their searches to some composers from the 80s. One of these users, with nickname south_pole_ball, discovered that one of these composers, Christopher Booth, had composed music for several pornographic films from that decade.

The ‘investigator’ then dedicated himself to watching all the films in which Booth’s work was present, ending up locating the song, present in “Angels of Passion”, from 1986. Booth himself seemed to corroborate the discovery, writing , on Instagram: “I’m stunned.” The complete song has already been shared on YouTube, albeit in low fidelity and in a family friendly – that is, without the actors’ groans in the film.
