The Madeira Regional Center of the Portuguese League Against Cancer (NRM-LPCC) challenged the community to join the “Blue March” movement, which includes a set of activities related to raising awareness and preventing colorectal cancer.

The month’s program was presented today, at the headquarters of the NRM-LPCC, with the presence of the president of the NRM-LPCC, Ricardo Sousa, the clinical director of SESARAM, Júlio Nóbrega, the Vice-President of SESARAM, Filipa Freitas, and the doctors Ana Paula Vieira, Orlandina Figueira, Maria Olim, Joana Carvão and Jorge Fernandes.

Colorectal cancer is, in Portugal, the second most common in women after breast cancer and the second most common in men after prostate cancer, ranking first in terms of mortality, with prevention and screening being important to reverse it. the current framework.

The awareness campaign against colorectal cancer aims to involve the entire community and challenge different public and private institutions to illuminate their facades with the color blue, with several events planned, including conferences and awareness actions, fundraising, exercise classes, tournaments, concerts, walks, exhibitions. One of the most emblematic moments is the “Faz das tripas Coração” Walk, which takes place at the end of the month, in Funchal and which is accompanied by other municipalities.

In this session, the book “ABC Colorectal Cancer” was also launched, with the aim of bringing knowledge about this disease to the population, making them more informed about their health, and constituting a support resource for the patient and the your family.
