Department of Health starts smoke against dengue in 45,500 properties in Cascavel

Cascavel, the headquarters municipality of the 10th Health Region, began this Monday (18) a fumigation operation (Ultra Low Volume – UBV attached to the vehicle) to combat dengue. The measure, carried out by the State Department of Health (Sesa), aims to help eliminate the Aedes aegypti mosquito in its adult form (winged), which transmits the disease, and reduce viral transmission.

The action began in the São Cristóvão, Morumbi and Periolo neighborhoods and will cover 21 other locations in the municipality. The insecticide will be applied by four Sesa epidemiological surveillance vehicles in 1,278 blocks, which include 45,550 properties. The operation is scheduled to end on April 10, and the schedule may be adjusted due to weather conditions.

The fumigation is done two hours before sunrise and two hours after sunset, with five application cycles, at intervals of three to five days for repeated use in locations with greater epidemiological risks.

According to the latest dengue bulletin, released on Tuesday (12), the 10th RS has 11,079 confirmed cases and six deaths. Cascavel alone has recorded 4,448 cases and one death in the current epidemiological period, which began on July 30 last year.

“Cascavel is one of the municipalities with the most registered cases in the State. We spare no effort to alleviate the situation and safeguard the population against the disease. I emphasize that this is just one of the actions to reduce cases. The important thing is to raise public awareness about eliminating outbreaks and places where they can serve as breeding sites”, said the director of Regional Health, Rubens Griep.

SMOKE – From November 2023 to date, 46 municipalities have already received fogging activities. The application takes place during five work cycles, but some municipalities have requested an expansion of application cycles (from five to seven cycles), which can happen if the epidemiological scenario still represents an outbreak or epidemic.

The State has a fleet of 50 vehicles coupled to meet smoking requests, being considered one of the largest in the country. Currently the work is being carried out in Capanema, Salto do Lontra, Dois Vizinhos, Missal, Boa Vista da Aparecida, Quedas do Iguaçu , Espigão Alto do Iguaçu, Cascavel, Juranda, Paranavaí, Paraíso do Norte, Atalaia, Floresta, Uniflor, Maringá, Rio Bom, Kaloré, Rolândia, Cambé, Cornélio Procópio and Ibaiti.
