Ana Maria Braga recalled details of the second cancer diagnosis he had due to the HPV virus. The presenter discovered the disease in 2001 and told, in an interview with Fantastic from TV Globo, what the moment was like.

The comment was made during a report on the program about the virus, for which the vaccine has low adoption in Brazil. According to her, the doctor soon explained what had caused the illness. “It came from HPV. I didn’t have the slightest information,” she recalled.

“By the time I managed to find out what I had, he was already ahead of schedule. And then, I had a minimal chance of survival. So, it’s very scary”, says Ana Maria.

When talking about the disease, which the presenter had three other times (skin, in 1991, and lung, in 2015 and 2020), Ana highlighted that there should be no blame in relation to the diagnosis.

“You don’t have to feel guilty about getting cancer. You’re not to blame. Because you’re a sexually active woman. You’re a mother, you can’t be a mother without being sexually active. I think sexuality has to be faced the way it is. It’s a natural thing, made from nature, otherwise we wouldn’t be here”, he said.
