The sooner you start eating well and exercising, the better your aging will be. And even though it is not easy to create a healthy routine, there comes a time in life when all care, especially related to food, is necessary.

Harvard University revealed three foods that should be avoided after age 50.

The study, published in scientific magazine BMJ, analyzed changes in 136,432 adults aged 65 or under, 85% of whom were women over 28.

The finding showed that the quality of carbohydrates research participants consumed made a difference.

People who ate more low-quality carbohydrates gained up to 1.4 kg more than others. This was mainly observed in those who were already overweight.

For researchers of Harvardweight gain was related to low-quality carbohydrates that have a high glycemic index, which produced spikes in blood glucose.

Foods that are part of this group and should be avoided are:

  • Starchy vegetablessuch as peas, corn, potatoes and pumpkin;
  • Sugary drinkssuch as soft drinks, fruit juices and energy drinks;
  • Refined cerealssuch as white pasta, French bread, white rice and white flour.
