The São Paulo State Health Department sent an Epidemiological Alert requesting that all municipalities in São Paulo intensify vaccination actions against Yellow Fever. The objective is to immunize 95% of the population against the disease.
The action is necessary, according to the State, since between 2022 and 2023 the State of São Paulo confirmed 4 human cases of Yellow Fever, and in 2024, so far, 2 cases have been confirmed.
Yellow fever is a mosquito-borne disease and can lead to death. The only way to prevent the disease is vaccination.
The target audience for this campaign will be people aged nine months and over, according to the vaccination schedules:
1st dose: dose at 9 months
2nd dose: at 4 years old
from 5 years old: single dose
Adolescents, adults and the elderly can look for a health unit to check whether they need to take the Yellow Fever vaccine.
In Botucatu, doses of the Yellow Fever vaccine are available in all 22 health units and in night vaccination rooms. To take the vaccine, children must be accompanied by their parents or guardians, and carry a photo ID and vaccination card.
The vaccine is contraindicated in the following cases:
– Children under 6 months of age;
– Acute febrile illness, with impairment of general health status;
– History of anaphylactic reactions to chicken eggs and their derivatives, gelatin, erythromycin and kanamycin;
– Pregnant women, unless in an epidemiological situation with a high risk of exposure, following express recommendations from health authorities;
– Congenital or secondary immunodeficiency due to disease (neoplasms, AIDS and HIV infection with compromised immunity) or treatment (immunosuppressive drugs above 2mg/kg/day for more than two weeks, radiotherapy, etc.).
