The weekly dengue bulletin published this Tuesday (30) by the State Department of Health (Sesa) confirms another 42 deaths and 32,819 cases in the State. In the current epidemiological period, which began in July 2023, the State already has 213 deaths from the disease. Data from the 34th Epidemiological Report also indicates 293,336 confirmed cases, in addition to 569,474 notifications and 108,596 cases under investigation.

The deaths occurred between February 3 and April 22, 2024. There are 21 men and 21 women aged between just one month and 97 years old, residing in 19 municipalities (Ponta Grossa, Chopinzhinho, Sulina, Francisco Beltrão, Cascavel , Araruna, Campo Mourão, Tapejara, Paranavaí, Mandaguaçu, Maringá, Jandaia do Sul, Londrina, Marechal Cândido Rondon, Maripá, Palotina, Terra Roxa, Toledo and Lidianópolis), 28 of which had comorbidities.

The municipalities where the deaths occurred are in the areas covered by the Health Regions of Ponta Grossa (3rd RS), Pato Branco (7th RS), Francisco Beltrão (8th RS), Cascavel (10th RS), Campo Mourão (11th RS), Cianorte (13th RS), Paranavaí (14th RS), Maringá (15th RS), Apucarana (16th RS), Londrina (17th RS), Toledo (20th RS) and Ivaiporã (22nd RS).

The Region with the most confirmed cases to date is the 10th RS of Cascavel, with 39,713 confirmed cases. Following are the 8th RS of Francisco Beltrão (38,161), 16th RS of Apucarana (31,180), 17th RS of Londrina (28,912), 15th RS of Maringá (25,172) and 11th RS of Campo Mourão (22,719). The cities with the most cases are Londrina (19,499), Cascavel (19,306), Apucarana (16,777), Maringá (15,062) and Francisco Beltrão (9,818) – there are 396 municipalities with confirmed cases.

In relation to deaths, the Regions with the most deaths are the 17th in Londrina (37), 10th in Cascavel (31), 20th in Toledo (28), 16th in Apucarana (23) and the 8th in Francisco Beltrão (21). The municipalities ahead in the number of deaths due to dengue are Londrina (23), Cascavel (20), Toledo (17), Apucarana (14) and Chopinzinho, Cambé, Rolândia and Cornélio Procópio, with six records each.

ZIKA AND CHIKUNGUNYA – Information about chikungunya and zika, which are also transmitted by mosquitoes Aedes aegypti, are also contained in the document. There were 11 new cases of chikungunya recorded, totaling 126 confirmations and 1,378 notifications of the disease in the State. Since the beginning of this period there have been no confirmed cases of Zika virus. 118 notifications were registered.
