Vaccines are fundamental in people’s lives, especially in the first months of life. However, immunization against various diseases can cause adverse reactions in babies and become a nightmare for parents. Despite this, the symptoms are considered normal by experts and can be alleviated with some methods.

All vaccines can cause reactions that usually appear within 48 hours, such as redness, pain, fever, cramps, irritability, among many others. The most common are called local reactions and represent some change in the area of the skin where the vaccine was applied, which may become red or hard after the injection. On the other hand, there are rare reactions, such as seizures and other neurological symptoms.

It is common for symptoms to last two days. Therefore, it is necessary to alert the pediatrician when they pass this period. According to experts, the rule is an exception in the case of the BCG vaccine, against tuberculosis, which can cause a local reaction between 15 and 30 days after application. It can cause edema or redness, followed by the formation of pus and crust in the area, which must be washed with water and neutral soap.
