“Betalains have been shown to reduce several markers of inflammation, reduce the production of pro-inflammatory free radicals and protect the body from harmful substances called xenobiotics”, highlighted the nutritionist to the EatingWell portal, referring to the conclusions of a study published by Human Nutrition & Metabolism.
Specializing in intestinal health, Davineé Lingo said that beetroot is a source of dietary nitrates, “natural compounds that the body converts into nitric oxide, an important chemical messenger that helps dilate blood vessels, improving blood flow”.
