The captaincy of the Port of Funchal extended, for the fifth consecutive day, the strong wind warning for the Madeira coastline, now until 6pm on Friday.

The extension is based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), extending the strong wind warning for the coastline issued on Monday and which was in force until 6:00 am on Friday.

The captaincy indicated that the wind will be from the northeast “fresh to very fresh, sometimes strong”, with visibility “good, sometimes moderate”, with waves of up to 3.5 meters being expected on the north coast and 1.5 meters on the southern part.

In the warning, the captaincy insists on recommendations for “the entire maritime community and the population in general to take precautions, both when preparing to go to sea and when they are at sea or in coastal areas”.

Reinforcing the mooring and monitoring of moored and anchored vessels, avoiding walks near the sea or in areas exposed to sea agitation and not practicing recreational fishing, especially near cliffs and cliff areas frequently affected by breaking waves, are the instructions given by the regional authority.
