O The month of March began with forecasts of “precipitation”, “small drop in minimum temperature” and even “snowfall”, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). The trend will continue through the weekend, with ten districts under yellow warning due to snow and seven districts under orange warning due to forecast sea disturbances.
This Friday, March 1st, the districts of Guarda and Viseu are those with the lowest minimum temperaturewith -2ºC and -1ºCrespectively, while the highest maximum temperatures are recorded in Funchal (20ºC) and Faro (19ºC).
Also according to IPMA, if you are on the continent, you should wait “precipitation in the North and Center regions, being in the form of snow in the highlands”“small drop in temperature” and “strong sea disturbances”.
In the Azores archipelago, the forecast will be “periods of very cloudy skies with good clear skies” in the western, central and eastern groups.
In the Madeira archipelago, the sky will be “generally very cloudy”, with the possibility of “showers, especially on the northern slopes and in the highlands of the island of Madeira, which could be snow at the highest points“.
The trend will continue through the weekend. According to IPMA, the districts of Porto, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro and Braga will be under yellow warning due to snow between 12pm on Saturday and 9am on Sunday and the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco and Coimbra between 12pm and 9pm on Saturday.
Seven districts will be under orange warning on Saturday due to the sea unrest forecastwith northwest waves measuring 5 to 6 meters expected, also according to IPMA.
The districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga start with a yellow warning between 9pm today and 6am on Saturday, then turning to orange until 00am on Sunday.
