The CHEGA-Madeira candidacy divided its campaign day between institutional visits and close contacts with the population. Thus, in the morning, a party delegation visited ACIN, a technology-based and innovative company located in the municipality of Ribera Brava, which creates, manages and maintains a set of electronic platforms, developed specifically for regional, national and foreign clients. . The visit was followed by contacts with the population in the village of that council.

In the afternoon, CHEGA returned to its consultation initiatives, this time in the municipalities of Santa Cruz and Ponta do Sol. At the end of the day, the candidacy distributed information leaflets and gifts in the city of Funchal, taking advantage of the moment to inform voters regarding their main political proposals and calling for their vote on March 10th.

In the day’s initiatives, CHEGA’s candidacy addressed some of the issues that define current regional and national politics, giving special emphasis to the theme of family. For CHEGA’s candidacy, over the last few decades, especially during periods of socialist governance, the family has been the target of political attacks, which, in their view, have not only deprived the family of the central role it should have in social structuring, as well as worsening their living conditions and hope for the future.

To counter this situation, CHEGA’s candidacy advances a number of measures, such as strengthening the protection of pregnant women in health care, combating dismissal or discrimination at work for these women, supporting large families by adapting support programs for entry into the housing credit, eliminate VAT on food and hygiene products intended for babies, increase tax benefits for families, recognize the time dedicated to caring for descendants for retirement purposes and return the ability to educate to the family, removing all doctrinal content of school curricula.

“The State has taken an unacceptable and shameful stance of attacking and excluding the family, doing everything to diminish the central role that it should have in social development and to promote a number of ideologies that call into question the edifying and guiding contribution that parents must have in the development of their children. In fact, the State has sought to replace itself with the family, imposing a number of forms of violence in the most diverse areas, including with regard to ideology and gender identity”, observed Francisco Gomes, head of the CHEGA list at the Assembly of the Republic.

For the CHEGA candidate, “Measures such as mixed bathrooms, the sexualization of the school context, attacks on parental authority, anti-family stereotypes, birth disincentives and even the lack of effective labor protection for pregnant women are situations that CHEGA will fight in the next legislature, as it does not consider them desirable, nor tolerable, in a country that wants to respect the family, which we see as the structuring cell of the new Portugal that we want to give birth to.”
