The two new complaints were filed on the 19th and 26th of February, at the Barreiro PSP, and Bruno Costa’s attack in a cafe occurred on the 27th, Wednesday. Before these episodes, Bruno Costa was targeted, over the years, by dozens of complaints from young girls who claimed to have been stalked, assaulted and sexually harassed.
For these facts, he came to be called the “Barreiro monster” and was sentenced, by the Almada Court, at the end of 2019, to a three-year prison sentence, suspended on condition that the defendant moves away from the municipalities of Barreiro and Moita.
The defendant, then 33 years old, went to live with his grandparents in Fronteira, in the district of Portalegre, but he would also be the target of a complaint of domestic violence, presented by the family members who took him in, for having attacked his grandmother, now in her nonagenarian age. It was not possible to determine the development of this process, in which he was accused of a crime by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, but only that, four years later, Bruno Costa returned to Barreiro.
The news of new attacks this month did not go unnoticed. On the 27th, Bruno Costa was having coffee in an establishment in Barreiro and was approached by a man who accused him of hitting women, while filming him. In the video, shared on the Internet, Bruno Costa can be seen facing the young man, known by the nicknames “Luva di Nike” and “Telmo Loko”. Then, the video is cut and resumes with the author bragging about having beaten Bruno Costa, who, in fact, appears in the video with a blow to his nose, bleeding.
According to information collected by JN, Bruno Costa decided not to file a complaint about those facts with the PSP, which, however, registered the incident.
A police source reported that two complaints were filed by young females, allegedly attacked by the “Monstro do Barreiro”, in February. The suspect has not yet been charged, but the same source guarantees that the police intend to act quickly to prevent social alarm from spreading again on the streets of Barreiro.
In the past, before his conviction in 2019, Bruno Costa attacked dozens of victims, who crossed paths with him on the street, but also persecuted them through social media and with phone calls. At the time, the attacks alarmed the city of Barreiro to the point that a protest march was held here, by the collective “Action against Gender Violence – For Equality”, in which they called for the compulsory hospitalization of the attacker, in front of dozens of attacks and pursuits of the suspect.
