O Santa Joana Hospital and Maternitya reference in high-risk and highly complex pregnancies, developed a tool for big data It is Artificial intelligence aiming to support decision-making and management of serious cases of pre-eclampsia. The technology contributed to reducing cases of readmission of patients affected by the disease, in addition to cases of polytreatment and blood products.

According to data released by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), the maternal mortality rate in Brazil returned to pre-pandemic levels: after reaching a rate of 117 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2021, it returned to 57 — a similar rate to 2019. The global average is 223 deaths for every 100,000 births and the Western European maternal death rate is 8 for every 100,000 births.

“Since 2022, our maternal death rate, which was already one of the lowest in the world, has been zero. “Hypertension and pre-eclampsia are the main scourge of maternal health in our country. Around 40% of patients admitted to the Institution’s Semi-Intensive ICU are women suffering from hypertensive crises, both chronic hypertension and pre-eclampsia. Therefore, it is very important that care and prevention begin in prenatal care”, he highlights.

Pre-eclampsia is the increase in blood pressure from the 20th week of pregnancy, which can affect women who normally have hypertension problems or not.
