O Former president of Catalonia is in mourning: Carles Puigdemont’s mother has died.
Carles Puigdemont suspended his schedule for this Monday, as part of the electoral campaign for the May 12 elections, following the death of his mother, Núria Casamajó y Ruiz.
The announcement was made by himself on social media.
In the sharing he made, the former ruler states that his mother “never lacked” affection. “She had a full life and it was without suffering,” he writes.
Carles Puigdemont, remember, will be the JxCat party candidate for the early Catalan elections, scheduled for May 12th. He says he wants to “finish the work” to make Catalonia independent, having suggested to the ERC the sharing of a unitary electoral list.
The face of Catalonia’s unilateral declaration of independence in 2017, Carles Puigdemont fled to Belgium shortly after, evading Spanish justice to this day, currently facing an arrest warrant on national territory.
Puigdemont was never convicted, so he could be a candidate in the elections, as happened in December 2017. He was also a candidate in the 2019 European elections and has been an MEP since then.
