The news appears as a pleasant surprise, as an increase is expected, but for the Apple M3 chip, jumping from the M2 chip in the existing iPad Pro.
If Gurman is right, the new iPad Pro will be the first Apple device to receive the M4 chip more powerful, surpassing the company's line of portable and desktop computers, which are expected to be launched later this year with Apple's latest chip inside.
I've been hearing that there's a strong possibility that the chip in the new iPad Pro is the M4, not the M3. Better yet, I believe Apple will position the tablet as its first truly AI-powered device – and that it will promote every new product from then on as an AI device. This, of course, is all in response to the AI craze that has swept the technology industry over the past two years.

Analyst Bloomberg explained that by adding the M4 to the iPad Pro ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, the tech giant will be able to share its dedicated AI processing strategy “without distraction.” In addition, it will gain space to explain at WWDC how the M4 chip and the new iPad Pros will take advantage of the AI software and services that will come as part of iPadOS 18 later this year.
It's not the first time this has happened
If this “ignoring” of the M3 chip for the iPad Pro in favor of the M4 is confirmed, it is nothing surprising, in terms of strategy. We remember that the company skipped the M2 chip in its 24-inch iMac, launched with the M1 in 2021 before evolving to the M3 with the launch of the renewed desktop in 2023.
