1st Cycle students participate in drawing competition about colorectal cancer | Funchal News | Madeira News – Information for everyone for everyone!

Students from 1st cycle schools in the Autonomous Region of Madeira responded to the challenge of the Madeira Regional Center of the League Against Cancer, in partnership with SESARAM, for a drawing competition related to the ‘Blue March’, dedicated to raising awareness for the prevention of colorectal cancer.

“You know your gut” was the motto of the initiative, which had the collaboration of the Regional Department of Education, Science and Technology and which resulted in an exhibition, opened yesterday at the Plaza Madeira Shopping Center, which will be on display throughout the month.

From now on, anyone can help choose the winners of the competition, choosing one of the 43 works submitted that they consider to be the most creative and the one that best represents awareness for this cause. Voting is done using a QR code, available at the exhibition.

At the opening of the exhibition, the president of the Madeira Regional Center of the Portuguese League Against Cancer, Ricardo Sousa, warned of the importance of prevention, highlighting that colorectal cancer is responsible for an average of 11 deaths per day.

For her part, Bruna Gouveia, regional director of Health, and representing the regional secretary of Health and Civil Protection, focused her intervention on strengthening health literacy, as a way of having more informed and aware citizens regarding these issues. Rubina Leal, Vice-President of the Legislative Assembly and representing the President of Parliament, congratulated the approach aimed at children, on a topic that is normally aimed at adults.
