In the aftermath of the legislative elections, we analyze the numbers
ADN shone in these elections, rising from the last league to be the fourth most voted political force in the district of Viseu. These results are surprising, given that in the last legislative elections the number of votes did not exceed two digits. In the municipality of Viseu there was a very visible difference. In the 2022 elections, ADN only received 69 votes, in the current elections I already received 1,813 votes. The highest percentage for DNA, taking into account the population, was in Vila Nova de Paiva (4.62). One of the narratives that has been passed is that of deception, that voters confused ADN with AD (the coalition between PSD/CDS and PPM).
But not all deception justifies the rise of this party. The president of Vila Nova de Paiva reported, for example, that he does not have any complaints in the minutes.
Paulo Marques recalled that DNA is not a new acronym and that “the people are wise and know what they choose”. For the socialist mayor, the fact that ADN is a party with a strong religious component may justify the higher vote. “This party has existed for several years. The confusion was created by the AD itself”, lamented the mayor.
The truth is that no one knew who, for example, was the head of the list for Viseu, a place that was given to Maria Fernanda Modesto, 72 years old, born in Figueira da Foz and residing in Setúbal. Without a campaign on the ground, ADN had 3.13% of the votes, going from 188 ballots in 2022 to 6,615 on Sunday. In several municipalities, the ADN went from being the party force that was practically at the bottom of the table to now reaching fourth position, as also happened in São João da Pesqueira, Sernancelhe and Lamego.
