Nacional were unable to travel back to Madeira this Sunday due to a breakdown on the plane they were traveling on, with their return scheduled only for this Monday, informed the II football league club.

“The entourage of the CD Nacional professional football squad is stranded on the Azorean island of São Miguel, after the airline Azores Airlines canceled flight S44012 to Lisbon, causing them to miss the next connecting flight, towards Funchal “, explain the ‘alvinegros’ in a statement on their official website.

Due to these constraints, the island formation was only able to depart from São Miguel on the morning of this Monday, on a flight that left at 9:00 am for Lisbon, “and the air connection to Funchal will only take place at 9:10 pm, with the natural disruptions that will cause the the whole team”, the Madeirans further detail.

Nacional beat leader Santa Clara in the Azores 1-0 this Sunday and consolidated third place in the II League, with 51 points.

The Madeirans are five points away from the two at the front, Santa Clara and AVS, and visit União de Leiria in the next round, at a date and time yet to be defined.
