The Tomar City Council approved, in an executive meeting, the signing of a protocol with Just a Change, a non-profit association, which rehabilitates the homes of people in need in Portugal.
The protocol in question envisages the rehabilitation of permanently owned housing that is in disrepair, whose owners are needy families who lack the capacity to carry out all the necessary interventions to live a life of dignity.
“The main objective of this partnership is, through improving the living conditions of these residents, to have a direct impact on reducing and preventing situations of social vulnerability”, highlights the information released.
The Just a Change Association is an IPSS dedicated to rehabilitating the homes of people in housing poverty. Its implementation on the ground is carried out through technical teams and the mobilization of volunteers who transform houses in a high state of degradation into places worthy of living.
Since 2010, through partnerships with several public and private entities, Just a Change has rehabilitated more than 350 homes and 100 institutions, impacting the lives of more than 5,000 beneficiaries and mobilizing more than 7,000 national and international volunteers.
The municipality of Tomar joins this mission of “Rehabilitating Houses and Rebuilding Lives”, promoting and diversifying its “intervention in the fight against housing poverty, reinforcing once again that housing is a constitutionally enshrined fundamental right and one of the most relevant instruments of social cohesion and inclusion”, concludes the note.
The survey of homes to be intervened has already begun, based on signals from Social Network partners and after due analysis of its feasibility, the intervention works will take place in the summer of 2024.
