In the executive session last Monday, March 18th, Carlos Lopes informed the council that 592.25 tons of waste were sent during 2023 for recovery, which corresponded to a revenue of 82,288.95 euros.
To the RUC, the environment councilor highlighted the increase in revenue, around 80% in relation to the value obtained in 2022.
There was an increase in the collection of glass, packaging and cardboard. The sale of end-of-life vehicles also contributed to revenue growth. City services have already purchased four vehicles to collect glass, packaging and cardboard.
The reduction of waste without recovery potential suffered “a slight reduction (2%)”. However, the collection of monos increased by almost 22%. ERSUC started door-to-door collection in the north of the municipality. Carlos Lopes is satisfied with the results. Around 500 families have already joined.
From April onwards, Coimbra City Council will launch bio-waste collection campaigns. According to the Environment councilor, 29 new recycling bins were installed last week. Around 300 new containers will be replaced and/or placed throughout the municipality.
Carlos Lopes committed to soon presenting PAPERSU (Municipal Waste Management Plan) with a scope until 2030.
From the socialist councilor, José Dias, came the warning about the lack of a macro plan that defines the environmental policies of the Coimbra City Council. Carlos Lopes informed that the Chamber will open a competition for external help in defining the area’s action plan and that he plans to present it at a future session of the City Council.
