Arrives available to facilitate amending budget if complaints from police and teachers are accepted

The president of Chega expressed this Wednesday the party’s availability to facilitate an amending budget that is presented by an AD government if it accepts the demands of the security forces and teachers and reduces taxes.

“If the amending budget is limited in terms of correcting the other PS budget to three or four points, Chega is open to checking the possibility of evaluating it. If the mission supplement is equated to the police, if the service time of the police is recovered, teachers, if it manages to give nurses some of its historical demands, if it reduces taxes, because we have a very high tax burden here… if this correction manages to give signals in these matters, Chega is available to work and to evaluate it, and for the make it possible,” he said.

André Ventura spoke to journalists at a press conference at Chega’s national headquarters, in Lisbon.

These and other matters, such as “justice reform, with the consequent fight against corruption and guaranteeing the independence of police and magistrates, can move forward and will have the green light in parliament to move forward even without a substantive agreement on matters of governance or budget”, he said, indicating that Chega will propose some measures in the Assembly of the Republic because they require “urgent resolution”.

The president of Chega admitted that the party may vote in favor of an amending budget if it is presented by an AD government and meets these assumptions.

Although the coalition did not commit to presenting this document, André Ventura said that “it would be very strange if it didn’t exist”, given the right-wing criticism of the State Budget that is in force this year and which was presented by the PS.

The leader of Chega stressed that, regarding the State budget for 2025 and beyond, “there is no possibility of it being made viable” without “there being an agreement”.

“It is very different to enable a rectifying budget and a General State Budget in a normal period, because this is a macroeconomic policy instrument”, he stated.

Ventura once again insisted on an agreement with the Democratic Alliance, which he said he hoped would be possible by the “end of summer”, and guaranteed that he would continue to try “to create a platform of stability that would give four years of governance to Portugal and four years of a majority not Wasted”.

“Those who, insisting on their ego or arrogance, waste it by looking to the side or ignoring the votes of almost one million and two hundred thousand Portuguese, will be the ones causing all the instability that the country may experience”, he warned .

André Ventura also said that “there is a rapprochement between the PS and the PSD” and that “it reinforces Chega’s role as leader of the opposition”.
