In a statement, ULS states that “the gesture of solidarity” came from Portuguese-Brazilian lawyer and businessman Bruno Gutman, who has lived in Braga for five years and whose father is accompanied by professionals from the Oncology Service of the city’s hospital.

“We raised the amount from friends and family, many in Brazil, to collaborate with the hospital, firstly because users receive free care, secondly because we can play an active role in the proper functioning of the institution”, explains the patient’s son, quoted in the text.

Highlighting the “exceptional service” provided, Bruno Gutman took advantage of the moment of the donation to motivate business entities in the city to replicate the gesture. “Braga has a huge business community, there are many companies with a lot of value, which can be active elements in favor of social responsibility”, he appealed.

The family was received by the administration of ULS in Braga, which recognized the “generous gesture” and highlighted the importance of these types of acts for the institution. “We were very grateful to see people being part of the solution to problems and proactively contributing to the improvement of the SNS”, praised the president of the Board of Directors, Domingos Sousa.

According to the Braga Local Health Unit, “wheelchairs will be used to improve the quality of life of users who require assisted mobility”.
