Festival Lugar Futuro brings two absolute premieres and six first works created by young choreographers and performers at Teatro Viriato and Instituto Português do Desporto e da Juventude

The dance will be present at the Lugar Futuro festival, which takes place this weekend in Viseu. At the event that kicked off yesterday (March 21), two absolute premieres and six first works created by young choreographers and performers will be presented, joined by students and teachers from national and international dance schools.

This Friday (22nd) at the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth (IPDJ), the first shows will be presented at 7pm: “Into the Blue” by Danielle Huyghe, “A Dance for the End of the World” by Diamanto Hadjizacharia and “Eveline, Are You Okay?” by Robin Kroes. After the presentations of the first works, there will be conversations with the artists and a public vote.

On Saturday (23rd), the Lugar Presente school – which organizes Lugar Futuro – hosts masterclasses in contemporary dance by Carlos Silva (9:30 am) and composition and improvisation by Maria Ramos (11:15 am).

From 5pm onwards, the IPDJ will host “Après Tout” by Gipsy Raw, “Inesorabilmenteunavia” by the company YoY Performing Arts and the duo Ema & Roberto and “Matomari No Nai” by Catarina Casqueiro and Tiago Coelho.

At Teatro Viriato, from 7pm onwards, Balleteatro Escola Profissional (pieces “NPC” and “Self-Poor-Trait”) and Conservatorio de Danza de Murcia (“Metanoia”) will perform. In an absolute debut, “Present Party”, created by Chen Nadler, takes to the stage.

This performance combines dance, music and recorded recordings, in a collaborative process by three artists from different parts of the world (Chen Nadler, Gal Gorfung and Daniel Motola) that explores relationships with natural and urban spaces, forms and atmospheres, and the way in which movement and sound reach and affect the human body within each space.

On Sunday (24th), the IPDJ hosts “Âmago” by Joana Providência and Daniela Cruz, from the young dance company Presente (based in Viseu), for its absolute premiere. Diversity, consumerism, dreams and reality are some of the themes behind this production, which takes as its starting point the documentaries “O Tempo e o Modo” about Eduardo Galeano and Vandana Shiva.

Three shows from the Escola Superior de Dança de Lisboa will also be presented: “This is not a solo”, “Look, decide, go!” and “20+1 steps to become a better man”. All these pieces take the stage from 5pm onwards.
