New facilities at the GNR Territorial Post inaugurated

The new facilities at the Mesão Frio Territorial Post were inaugurated on March 20, in a ceremony presided over by the Minister of Internal Administration, José Luís Carneiro, by the General Commander of the Republican National Guard, Lieutenant-General Rui Veloso, also counting on the presence of the president of the Mesão Frio City Council, Paulo Silva, among other civil, judicial, police and military entities.

The Minister of Internal Administration, José Luís Carneiro stated that “this ceremony is very significant, which dignifies the exercise of the military functions of the GNR, one of our main missions and one of the priorities of the democratic rule of law, a factor of cohesion and development of the country” , adding that the military security forces represent the “defense of citizens’ security, freedoms and guarantees”.

José Luís Carneiro praised the attitude of the municipal president, because “he did not just look at the problems, but tried to find solutions to solve these same problems”.

In a statement, the Vila Real GNR command explained that the Mesão Frio Territorial Post has a “staff of 22 soldiers and brings together unique structural and location conditions that allow for a significant increase in the GNR’s support capacity for citizens of the parishes of Barqueiros, Cidadelhe, Oliveira, Santo André-Mesão Frio and Vila Marim, with a total area of ​​26.65 km², serving a population of 3,547 inhabitants”.

The total investment of 441,700.20 euros was financed by the Ministry of Internal Administration and included the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the GNR Territorial Post of Mesão Frio, which in 2019 was completely destroyed by a fire.
